Franklin Elementary currently has a 4th grade chorus and a 5th grade chorus. All students in both 4th and 5th grades participate. Both groups meet during the school day and perform in a winter concert and a spring concert. Students learn to sing in unison and also in harmony through the use of partner songs, canons and songs with ostinati. These children sing songs from a variety of cultures and historic periods. Emphasis is placed on good singing technique, learning to perform as an ensemble and on singing musically.
In 5th grade a select few students are chosen to perform in Erie County Chorus. This group meets over several rehearsals with other students throughout the county. The group meets outside of the school day with a guest conductor and culminates in a final performance at Kleinhans Music Hall.
