Lindbergh Goes Pink to Raise Nearly $1,000 for Susan G. Komen Foundation
In memory of the late Camille Carrato, a longtime teacher in the Ken-Ton School District, faculty, staff and students at Lindbergh Elementary School went pink on Monday, Oct. 5 to raise money for breast cancer research and treatment.
Students and staff school-wide wore pink to express their support for the effort. Students also donated money to be able to wear a hat for the day or to have tinsel, hair extensions or feathers installed in their hair by stylists from Studio 2000, which supports the event each year.
The effort has been organized for several years by Robin Hall, a fourth-grade teacher at Lindbergh Elementary. She started it in memory of Camille Carrato, who was a substitute teacher and then a sixth-grade teacher at Kenmore Middle School for many years.
“To know Camille was to love Camille,” Hall said. “She was one of my closest friends. She passed away from breast cancer so we do this in memory of her.”
This was the second year the event was opened to the entire school and a total of $906 was raised and donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation, the largest provider of funding for breast cancer research as well as education, patient services and support.
